Unreal Tournament Amateur Tricks and Tips

This is from me, and I always get killed so probably take it with a grain of sand.
- Hotkeys for each weapon
- Audio cues - UT is 50% audio, no music, listening for footsteps or the wood-board and water stepping, instantly gives your position away. You're screaming your position as you jump and dodge, especially as you pick up vials or weapons or items on the map. Especially as you shoot you make yourself obvious, whose the guy loading tri-rox around the corner??? For new people, try to bait them into following you and then combo them. DON'T CHASE. instead, change position and capture an angle. Shooting blindly around the corner is about the worst thing you can do, i.e. making a ton of noise and then coming into a room you will be met with weapons stuff coming your way because you ANNOUNCED for 2 seconds prior you were coming.
- Similarly, the best players are intentional with their audio communication-- they do not make noise or reveal their position unless they have control and don't care. Crouching means you don't make footstep noises.
- Weapons are situational -- instant correct weapon for your position and strategy. The main idea is awareness of what weapon the enemy has and what weapon you choose, and the distance. Paper-rock-scissors. If an opponent is using rockets or flak, back up and create distance and switch to hitscan or hit them from range to make them ineffective.
-
- Hitscan - Shock and Sniper ; the two main weapons which can grant you distance. Everything else is a projectile. A slow, close-ranged, projectile
- Link/Mini - utility guns ; I see these as finisher weapons when the opponent has low hp. Mini is almost hitscan at range, and both good for groups or applying pressure.
- Rockets/Flak - close range. you're never going to hit the screen-record shot, hitting rocket mid air. It's much better to paint the surfaces of the map with the projectile damage you intend to throw out (flak/rox). OR- immediately switch to a hitscan weapon if the person is floating (jump pads, lifts, ramps are DEATH traps waiting to be baited).
- Bio/Goo - utility in duel to overcome shielded opponent. Can be used for spamming around corners or jumping on
- Impact Hammer - blocks projectiles or piston jumps
